This is such a sad little fantasy. But it's a beauty of a collab! I love these lyrics. I think I know this girl. I like the deep under vocals. A titch Leonard Cohenish. Nice!

I like the Leonard Cohen comparison. Seriously though, Spike is the real driving force behind this collab. We thought we'd revisit the 80's but put a modern spiel on it.
His lyrics and vocals and the musical elements he added make this song rise up from fairly mundane backing tracks I provided. And the mix quality is great too. Had lotsa fun working on this collab, thanks Spike for making some scratch ideas become a productive and piece of music !

Spike, you have said that you are involved in a lot of collabs. I know Martin and you are quite busy, but I'd honestly recommend the two of you work out an entire album together. This fits together perfectly, and makes me wish there were a track 2, 3, 4 . . . I mean, it doesn't have to be 15 tracks and 70 minutes, but even a 30 minute 6 to 8 track would be nice.

i agree with bm about the collab album idea..you two sound "right" together. Great vocals and a tight production with a very interesting track. I must say I didnt expect this style from the two of you ...but I really believe this is a great diversion....its such an unusual track in its lyrics and sound. Great work you guys !! Unique lyrics too ....fantastic !!

This reminds me of someone...I can't quite put my fingers on it. It really is the vocals that reminds me of someone in the 80s maybe the petshop boys or something. In any case, very catchy tune and as you know anything that sounds 80 ish is what I'm a fan of. Awesome collab.

Those little instrumental touches fit the theme really well, particularly the twinkly part during the intro (and after the bridge) and the lovely synth parts. I also like the bass line, which really helps to carry the song throughout.
There's certainly an element of sadness to this story, as the girl has created her fantasy world to compensate for a real life of sadness and disappointment (the "glass slippers never worn" line brings that home brilliantly), but nevertheless there is an admirable level of defiance too. You have created a strong character, one who will do what it takes to find some happiness. I'm very impressed with your lyrics, Spike.
The track does seem a little sparse in places, but maybe adding more instrumental stuff would have over-egged the pudding and distracted from the story anyway. I've been trying to write a fairytale track of my own for a while now and struggling with, but hearing this has given me a fresh impetuous to finish it. I think this is a really good collab, you two.

Back for another listen... I just realized this reminds of that old song called "Delta Dawn" -- not the sound, but the feeling it invokes. Isolation, disconnection, and the world is too much sometimes. It makes me withdraw into my own little fantasy world... now gimme back my teddy bear! Two more for this one, guys.
